I received a very interesting book to review the other day and no I’m not sharing with you yet. Once I finish it I will write up a great review for you. What the book has done so far is make me think more and more about the type of food I put into my mouth.

As a diabetic I need to lose weight. I need to eat healthy, but even this book states that eating healthy is expensive. I wish people would stop saying you can do it for the same price. If you are poor you can’t! Most people spend 200 a week on food, yes if you have that much to spend you probably can afford healthy food. Me I’m lucky if I get $100 a month right now.

So I did the smart thing. I went out and bought some seeds and have started a garden. Of course this won’t help for a while, but at least it is something. I’m also saving some seeds so I can have fresh veggies all year long and it will only cost me a few dollars!

As for the expensive health food in the grocery stores? We all need to push the government to start promoting healthy food farming so that more and more healthy veggies are available to more people. Carbs are great in moderation, but we need more fruit and vegetables to get people back to a better weight and decrease the cost of health care.

I’ve said this before. I’m diabetic, I had been tested for diabetes most of my life, but they never found anything, then I went into the hospital. I had insurance, but my deductible was over $2000 and I had to pay that, I’m still paying that. Medications are expensive, currently I have not been to a doctor in 3 years. I can’t get help because I haven’t lost a leg or haven’t been blinded or have another disability, yet. Once that happens I will get help. I’ll get cash, insurance and food. Costing you the taxpayer a lot more money  then just having to pay for me to get the medications and food to keep me from being disabled.

The good news is I am someone who is trying to lose weight and keep myself from the system. Unfortunately many do not, if we could help them, maybe the cost of health care would go down. I want to be healthy and have better energy. I don’t like sitting in a sugar coma because it’s up and I can’t get it down. Many people though would rather be on the system, because they feel horrible, there not lazy, they are sick and need help so they have energy and can actually go out and be happy and productive.
